Personal details Full name: Martinus Hendricus Petrus van Dam Place and date of birth: Zoetermeer, 1 February 1978 Place of residence: The Hague Marital status: unmarried Education 1990-1996: Bisschop Bekkerscollege, Eindhoven (secondary school) 1996-2002: Degree in Industrial Engineering, Eindhoven University of Technology Career Martijn van Dam worked briefly for Philips Lighting BV, leaving on 30 January 2003 when he was elected to the House of Representatives. He served as a member of the House for the Labour Party (PvdA) until 3 November 2015. The issues he covered included economic affairs, integration, media and foreign policy. From November 2012 he also served as deputy leader of the party. On 3 November 2015, Martijn van Dam was appointed Minister for Agriculture in the Rutte-Asscher government. Party political positions and outside activities Martijn van Dam was a member of Eindhoven City Council from 1998 to 2003, serving as party chairman in the city from 2001 to 2003. He has also been a board member the Evert Vermeer Foundation since 2006 and a member of the board of governors of the Wiardi Beckman Foundation (WBS) since 2014. From July 2013 to 3 November 2015 Martijn van Dam was chairman of the Netherlands Association of Music Venues and Festivals (VNPF). He was also a board member of the Machiavelli Foundation and chairman of STRP, the foundation behind Eindhoven’s cultural Biennale.
